Monica Garcia-Itchoak joined the Foundation in April 2021, bringing more than 26 years of nonprofit and education experience, much of it with museums and other art organizations.
She came from The Foraker Group, where she worked with nonprofits on sustainability. Garcia-Itchoak moved to Alaska in 2010 from New York to direct education and public programs at the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center. Among other museum posts, she managed museum learning experiences at The American Museum of Natural History.
Garcia-Itchoak is an alumna of Leadership Anchorage through the Alaska Humanities Forum and the Catalyst for Nonprofit Excellence series at The Foraker Group. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio arts and Master of Education from the University of Illinois. She currently serves on the boards of the Pratt Museum and Museums Alaska and is board vice president as well as board development committee chair for thread Alaska, a statewide childcare resource agency.
She lives in Anchorage with her husband, Karlin, their daughter, Cedar Rose, and Chignik, their rambunctious husky. She loves traveling to cities for the architecture, museums, culture, film and antique shops. In her free time, she enjoys yoga, hiking, biking and camping.
