Sharity Sommer became a program officer in November 2017. She has held a variety of positions at the Foundation beginning as an intern in 2009 through the First Alaskans Institute Leadership Program.

Sharity works on grant requests and programs. She co-manages the Individual Artist Awards program, helps coordinate the Premera Rural Health Care Fund and oversees the Foundation’s partnership with Museums Alaska to help museums and cultural centers acquire art by currently practicing, Alaska-based artists, as well as to support museum professionals in managing their collections. She previously coordinated the Tier 1 small grant program.

Sharity earned a Bachelor of Arts in international studies with a minor in psychology from the University of Alaska Anchorage. She serves on the board of Facing Foster Care in Alaska. She hopes to inspire her nieces and nephews through positive involvement in the community. She loves learning her traditional language, Denaakk’e, and traveling.
