Sonya Kelliher-Combs
Contemporary Alaska Native artist, Sonya Kelliher-Combs lives and works in Anchorage, Alaska. She earned her BFA from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1992, and an MFA from Arizona State University in 1998. Her paintings, drawings and mixed media needlework have been displayed at numerous institutions including the Eiteljorg Museum, the Nicole Fiacco Gallery, the Institute of American Indian Arts and the Anchorage Museum. Her diverse background – Athabascan, Inupiaq, Irish, and German – influences her art, which mixes Western with traditional Native culture, organic and modern materials and man with nature.
