Hello friends,

Visiting Bethel earlier last week for the opening of Atsaq Place was another great celebration of the service-driven work happening across Alaska. The new 24-bed permanent supportive housing project connected to their shelter, conceived and built by locals, is a demonstration of what is great about our state. As one of our founders, Elmer, always said, “Helping others is an Alaska tradition.”

As much as Atsaq Place inspires hope, we understand that when our popular Tier 1 and Tier 2 programs paused in January, communities would still be in need. Thank you for your patience. We anticipate these familiar grant programs will resume this summer. In the meantime, if you have an urgent need or time-sensitive opportunity, please reach out.

Since starting the pause in January, we have been reviewing and improving our processes for both staff and grantees. Many of you have contributed to our grant process evaluations and continue to share local perspectives on community need. From focus groups to surveys to tours, thank you for taking your time to give us feedback.

Over the next several months, team members will be on the road and invite you to connect with us.

Here’s our upcoming schedule; if you see a Rasmuson Foundation logo or familiar face, please introduce yourself.

  • Sitka, March 26 – 28: Visit us at Open Office Hours at the Highliner Coffee Co. from noon to 3 p.m. on March 26.
  • Dillingham, April 11
  • Naknek, April 12
  • Ketchikan, April 15 – 19
  • Kodiak, April 29 – May 1
  • Cordova, May 17 – 19
  • Kenai Peninsula, May 28 – 30

If you’re looking for another way to connect, consider joining one of our upcoming regional listening sessions on April 17 and 18. Each will be over Zoom and specific for regions across Alaska. Click here to register your interest in attending.  If you can’t make it this time, don’t worry, I plan to lead these twice a year, each year, with a second series in October

Thank you for all you do.
