Annie Bartholomew will collaborate with other women musicians to re-imagine centuries-old folk ballads and perform them for a three-part short film ‘Northern Gothic’, a concert film to be recorded in the historic Old St. Joseph’s Hall in Nome. This work will explore complex relationships about narratives, resource extraction and place.

When asked what she would like the public to know, Bartholomew shared that she “is a songwriter, folk singer, and clawhammer banjo player from Juneau.”

“A banjo is a time machine,” says Bartholomew. She will record an album of original songs inspired by women of the Klondike Gold Rush on a new custom instrument, using Alaska and personal history to explore themes of sexual assault, survival and resilience.
