Brianna Allen

2025 Project Award
Brianna Allen will tour staged readings of ‘Momologues’, a playscript-in-progress about her lived experiences as a creative artist and mother with live audiences in Alaska and New York. Allen will also host artist talkbacks and further develop her script with a mentor. As a companion to her performed work, she will continue to paint insightful, vulnerable, and authentic portraits of mothers and their children.
When asked what she would like the public to know, Allen responded, “I am a multidisciplinary artist making work about motherhood, embodiment, and communal connection made possible by vulnerability and authenticity.”

(Left to right) The first two paintings, Mother Of…Ellie and Nova and Mother of JJ, Radly, Ophelia, Revel and Blaze, are from Allen’s Mother of… series, which challenges how mothers’ individual identities fade over time, especially after having children. The tell-all, deadpan stare says “I see you” from one mother to another. She is the ballast of her children — their security and comfort. She hears them and carries them, even while saying something else entirely to you. (Oil on panel, 18 x 24 inches, 2024); The Momologue Collective cover
