2025 Project Award

Caroline Van Hemert will write ‘Upwellings’, a science and adventure memoir to confront the collapse of her wildlife health research by exploring the biological creativity of the natural world. Each chapter begins with a specific lived experience and expands into a larger conversation about our collective future. She plans to travel to visit field sites and libraries and attend two arts/science residencies. 

When asked what she would like the public to know, Van Hemert shared that she is “a creative writer, wildlife biologist, and backcountry adventurer.”
