About the artist

Tlingit artist Da-ka-xeen Mehner grew up in Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska. He received his Associates in Fine Art in 1992 at the Institute of American Indian Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He helped open an art gallery named Site 21/21 in Albuquerque which gave birth to a community of artists spanning the state and country. In 2007, Mehner received his MFA in Native Arts from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and has been teaching classes at that institution while actively showing in Alaska. He has had many solo and group exhibitions and his work is held in many private and public collections.

Mehner will purchase all materials needed for an installation.

2007 Project Award

Mehner will purchase equipment, travel and meet with artists to explore a variety of visual art forms.
