John Hudson

John Hudson was born in Seattle, Washington in 1967 and currently lives in Oregon. His father is master carver Jack Hudson, a full time teacher of Tsimshian art and culture in the village of Metlakatla, Alaska. Hudson learned traditional carving methods from his father and his dedication to working within the old Tsimshian style is apparent throughout his art. His work embraces several different mediums including wood carvings, limited edition silk screen prints, painted deer hide drums and painted basketry. The U.S. Department of the State selected one of John’s masks to include on a world tour entitled “World Peace through Cultural Art” a symposium of various indigenous arts.
