MaÏté Agopian
Fairbanks
2025 Project Award
Maïté Agopian will workshop a new puppet theater piece in three acts to tell stories about Being/Longing/Belonging. Each act will investigate these ideas through three natural materials, their properties and types of puppetry: the fluidity/stillness of water through shadow puppetry, the stability/instability of stone through object puppetry, and the decomposition/growth of wood through string puppetry.
When asked what she would like the public to know, Agopian responded, “I like to use puppetry and mixed visual media to tell stories and engage audiences of all ages.”

2021 Project Award
Agopian credits puppetry with “power to touch, open new doors, and enhance learning environments.” She plans to build puppets and create a series of stories on the theme of climate change to be performed around an exhibit called “In a Time of Change: Boreal Forest Stories.”
