Project Award 2025

Unity Dance Project is an all-ages Latin Dance collective based in Anchorage. DeAnna Recknagle-Mercado is the project lead, working with Alain Mata, Makala Cruz, Sarah Nunes and other members-at-large. Their hope is to create a welcoming space where dancers of all ages and backgrounds can come together to learn, create and grow by sharing their passion for Latin dance, music and motion.

When asked what they would like the public to know, Unity Dance Collective shared, “We aim to empower Anchorage’s Latin dance community by creating an inclusive, artist-led space where dancers of all ages and levels can collaborate, create, and share their passion for Latin dance. With this award, we will build a sustainable model for community-driven growth, cultural expression, and creative freedom—transforming dance from performance into a movement of connection and collective artistry.”
