Aleesha Towns-BainAnchorage, AK— Bristol Bay Native Corporation (BBNC) is pleased to announce the hiring of Aleesha Towns-Bain as the new Executive Director of the BBNC Education Foundation. As Executive Director, Towns-Bain will provide strategic leadership and effective management of the Foundation’s operations.

Towns-Bain comes to the BBNC Education Foundation from the Rasmuson Foundation, where she most recently served as the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. She has also served as interim executive director of the Alaska Children’s Trust, and editor of the Colorado-based Crested Butte News. A graduate of Bristol Bay Native Corporation’s Training Without Walls Program and the Council on Foundations Career Pathways Program, Towns-Bain has emerged as one of Alaska’s top philanthropic leaders. She received her bachelor’s degree in journalism and Native American studies from The Evergreen State College, and a Master of Arts in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

“With Aleesha’s diversity of background, experience and knowledge in nonprofit administration and philanthropy, she is poised to lead the BBNC Education Foundation to a new level,” said Marie Paul, BBNCEF Board Chair. “We look forward to working with Aleesha and are excited about the future of the Foundation.”

“Rasmuson Foundation has great pride in Aleesha’s accomplishments, beginning as a Program Associate, then Program Officer, and, most recently, as our Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Over nine years, Aleesha touched many different areas of the Foundation’s operations, providing her creativity, management skills, and compassion both to our daily grantmaking and to special initiatives,” said Diane Kaplan, President and CEO of Rasmuson Foundation. “Twice, we loaned Aleesha as an executive to oversee partnerships of critical importance to the Foundation: to the Alaska Children’s Trust and to the Recover Alaska effort to reduce the harm caused by alcohol in Alaska. In each case, Aleesha’s efforts resulted in major advancement that will be felt for decades to come. She is a rare talent and we will miss her very much. Leading the BBNC Education Foundation is a perfect next step in assuming leadership for Alaska’s philanthropic sector.”

It is the mission of the BBNC Education Foundation to provide support for and encourage shareholders to pursue educational opportunities and to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of the Bristol Bay region.

“As a shareholder of the Bristol Bay Native Corporation and a recipient of an Education Foundation scholarship myself, I’m deeply honored to take on this role,” said Towns-Bain. “I’m looking forward to working with the Education Foundation Board of Directors and staff to meet our mission and excited about the opportunity to serve the people of Bristol Bay.”

Towns-Bain will be starting her new role in May 2017.
