Anchorage, AK – As part of its educational campaign to talk with Alaskans about the fiscal crisis, Plan4Alaska, Rasmuson Foundation President and CEO Diane Kaplan made the following statement in response to the passage of House Concurrent Resolution 23, which focuses House business on addressing the state’s budget shortfall until the operating budget is passed to the Senate.
“All members of the House who voted to pass this resolution are to be commended for recognizing the urgency of the budget shortfall facing our state. With a deficit approaching $4 billion this year alone, there is nothing more important to our future than crafting a comprehensive plan.”
According to public opinion research commissioned by Rasmuson Foundation, Alaskans are overwhelmingly concerned about the crisis and want elected leaders to act this year.
“The Legislature is listening to their constituents, and Alaskans are ready to help,” said Kaplan. “Plan4Alaska will continue educating the public about the fiscal situation and our options for addressing it.”
Rasmuson Foundation has launched a statewide campaign to talk with Alaskans about the budget crisis, to share facts and options, and to explain the urgency of acting now. We hope this will energize a mandate from the public for elected officials to make the tough choices this year. If we want to preserve Alaska for the future, we need a comprehensive, long-term solution to our budget problems. Learn more at www.Plan4Alaska.com.
