Anchorage – Rasmuson Foundation announced that in the fourth quarter of 2012 it made 32 Tier 1 awards for a total of $579,034. This draws to a close a year in which a record number of Tier 1 grants were awarded: 133 awards for nearly $2.6 million. An alphabetized list of awards can be found attached to this release. The Tier 1 program is a cornerstone of Rasmuson Foundation’s grantmaking and provides grants up to $25,000 for capital projects, technology upgrades, capacity building, program expansion, and creative works. Applications are accepted year-round. Examples of Tier 1 grants made during the period are:
- Alaska Botanical Garden (Anchorage) will install broadband internet service.
- Alutiiq Heritage Foundation dba Alutiiq Museum Archaeological Repository (Kodiak) will renovate its gallery.
- Anchor Arms dba Safe Harbor Inn (Anchorage) will make improvements to its guest rooms.
- Anchorage Community Theatre (Anchorage) and Greater Sitka Arts Council (Sitka) will purchase theatre and lighting equipment.
- Anchorage Community YMCA (Anchorage) will make swimming pool upgrades.
- Big Lake Library Advocates (Big Lake) and Homer Public Library (Homer) will make collection enhancements.
- City of Petersburg (Petersburg) will replace windows in Mt. View Manor, an assisted living facility.
- Hope Community Resources (statewide) will purchase subsistence equipment for its program in Dillingham.
- The Native Village of Mekoryuk (Mekoryuk) will purchase equipment for the Mekoryuk Health Clinic.
- Southeast Alaska Independent Living (Juneau) will develop an accessible tourism program.

The Rasmuson Foundation was created in May 1955 by Jenny Rasmuson to honor her late husband E.A. Rasmuson. The Foundation is a catalyst to promote a better life for all Alaskans.
