About the artist
Lani Hotch first began weaving when she was 17, inspired by her family’s weaving history and the desire to keep her Native Tlingit culture alive. She is skilled in weaving and textiles, making bags, leggings, headdresses, dance bibs, button blankets and other regalia. Hotch worked with students at Klukwan School for many years teaching Tlingit language, Cultural Arts, Native History, and subsistence skills. In addition to weaving, Hotch makes beaded jewelry, and enjoys incorporating weaving patterns into her beadwork. She currently lives and works in Haines, Alaska.
2010 Project Award
Hotch will participate in a contemporary textile arts show, “Time Warp.”
