Mark William Wedekind
About the artist
Mark Wedekind has been designing and building furniture in Anchorage, Alaska since 1994 and before that, in Utah. He is self-taught in woodworking and furniture design. His inspiration comes from patterns and shapes seen in nature. Wedekind’s work has been shown in many exhibitions and shows around Alaska, the Lower 48 states and Canada. He has created many public and private commissions, and is known for both the function and craftsmanship in his furniture. Wedekind believes a quote by the late jazz musician Charlie Mingus expresses his views on woodworking well, “Anybody can make the simple complicated — creativity is making the complicated simple.
